Report: Newcastle could swap Matt Ritchie for Philip Billing

Newcastle United could allow Matt Ritchie to return to Bournemouth, that Philip Billing could move in the opposite direction.

Ritchie has not started a game since the defeat to Leicester at the start of the month. And he has been an unused substitute for the last two games.

that the Cherries are keen to re-sign the 31-year-old almost five years after his departure for Tyneside. , Ritchie earns £45,000-a-week at St James’ Park.

And the report claims that Billing could end up joining Newcastle as part of the deal. Interestingly, The Sun does not make it entirely clear how much interest Steve Bruce has in signing the Dane.

Billing has started 10 Championship games this term. He has made a further six appearances from the bench.

It does appear that he has not lived up to expectations at the Vitality Stadium. , he cost £15 million in 2019.

So it will be interesting to see how the two clubs value a potential swap. Bournemouth will not want to lose the Dane on the cheap, but the Magpies will surely drive a hard bargain.

It does appear that both players could do with a fresh start elsewhere. So it may be a swap deal that all parties are on board with – as long as a fee can be agreed.
