Report: Newcastle could land Nabil Bentaleb for bargain price

Newcastle United could now make Nabil Bentaleb’s loan move permanent at a bargain price,

It was thought the Magpies would part with the £9 million that had been agreed as part of the loan deal but Newcastle’s takeover setback scuppered those plans.

The player has now returned to Schalke, despite the Bundesliga outfit deeming him surplus to requirements ahead of their new campaign.

Bentaleb will see his contract expire next summer and it’s thought that the midfielder will be allowed to leave for just £4.5 million during the transfer window.

The 25-year-old played in 15 matches under Steve Bruce last season, operating as a central midfielder or in a deep-lying holding role.

He managed 11 starts in all competitions and it had seemed as though the club would make the deal permanent in the summer.

The takeover situation led to those plans being curbed but at a bargain price, the club might look to revive their interest in the 35-time Algeria international.

Bentaleb has plenty of experience in England having also played for Tottenham earlier during his career and that might come into Bruce’s thinking.

TBR View – Bentaleb might be an ideal squad player for Newcastle at a bargain price

Okay so Bentaleb perhaps isn’t going to take Newcastle to the next level but at £4.5 million he’d represent a steady addition to the squad.

Newcastle’s squad proved relatively small last season and adding some depth could be ideal for Bruce this time around.

Bentableb would at least provide some quality from the bench and his experience could prove vital to a young group of players.
