Report: Newcastle called PSG this week to ask about signing 35-year-old

Newcastle United reached out to Paris Saint-Germain this week to learn about the availability of Keylor Navas, .

The Magpies currently have four first-team goalkeepers on their books. And it would appear that they have much greater priorities in the transfer market.

But that has not stopped Eddie Howe’s men targeting another stopper. , Newcastle made contact with PSG in the hope of signing Navas from the Ligue 1 giants.

However, PSG have no interest in letting the 35-year-old leave the club during the January transfer window. It is claimed that Mauricio Pochettino’s men intend to have Navas and Gianluigi Donnarumma sharing the gloves for the rest of the season.

Navas has made 17 appearances in all competitions this season. And with 12 games under his belt in the top-flight, Newcastle would have surely been unsurprised to learn PSG want to keep Navas.

Newcastle must keep Keylor Navas on radar for future window

Navas is arguably one of the most underrated goalkeepers of the last decade. The Costa Rica international did not get anything like the credit he deserved while at Real Madrid.

And he has continued to impress at Parc des Princes.

Mauricio Pochettino Navas was ‘one of the best goalkeepers in the world’. He also said it was an honour to work with him.

It would have been a real coup for Newcastle to sign Navas. And they may perhaps not give up hope of a future move. Donnarumma will surely have his sights set on becoming the permanent number one in Paris.

And with that, Navas may want one last run as a first-choice at the highest level. Perhaps that could come in the summer.

And should Newcastle stay up, perhaps they may be the side who come calling and make that offer to Navas.
