Report: Newcastle are now frontrunners for Tottenham left-back Danny Rose

Newcastle United are now reportedly frontrunners to sign Tottenham defender Danny Rose.

, the Magpies have a “strong interest” in the 29-year-old as the January transfer window edges close to Friday’s deadline day.

The report also details that Premier League duo Bournemouth and Watford are keen, but Newcastle are now named as in pole position.

The North East club have been linked with the left-back already this window and manager Steve Bruce described him as a “class act” ().

Rose, who earns £60,000-a-week (), has slipped down the pecking order at Spurs in recent months and struggled to make an imapct under Jose Mourinho.

The England international is part of a Spurs group that are in this season’s Champions League knockout stages against RB Leipzig, but whether he will stay be with them by then remains to be seen

TBR’s View:

Rose has played just 16 games across all competitions this season for Spurs and it wouldn’t be a big surprise if he does end up leaving in the final week of the January window.

Newcastle are now mentioned as the leading suitors for him, but previously reported that Spurs would only want either a permanent sale or a loan with an obligation to buy this month.

It is understood that Bruce’s team have already made an initial enquiry so would need to come back with something more concrete to try complete a deal.
