Report: Newcastle add Gennaro Gattuso to shortlist

that Newcastle United’s new owners are now looking at a move to hire Gennaro Gattuso, after the sacking of Steve Bruce.

Bruce, 60, has left Newcastle less than two weeks since the new owners arrived – following a £305million takeover. He lasted 97 games in charge.

His replacement is expected to arrive next week – with Graeme Jones taking interim charge against Crystal Palace on Saturday at Selhurst Park.

The front runners to take over at St. James’ Park remain as Lucien Favre, Eddie Howe and Paulo Fonseca. Talks are expected to be had soon.

But another name has supposedly been added to the shortlist in the form of fiery gaffer Gattuso. The 43-year-old almost joined Spurs in the summer.

Fans revolted upon hearing the news Gattuso could join. But he is now on the shortlist, given he is without a club since leaving Napoli last summer.

Gattuso to Newcastle: Why Italian is absolutely ideal, right now

The midfield hardman is just what Newcastle need, at this moment in time. While upstairs, Mike Ashley is gone, there are still problems on the pitch.

Do not let a 3-2 defeat to Tottenham fool you that Newcastle gave as good as they got. They were woeful, miles off Spurs throughout the match.

On another day, it could have been 4-0. Newcastle’s players need a boot up the backside, a fighter in the dugout to get out of the relegation scrap.

Gattuso is perfect. He has experience of big personalities, but also knows how to avoid the drop. The 2006 World Cup winner is ideal, for now.
