Report: New Barcelona president wants Arsenal star Hector Bellerin

New Barcelona president Joan Laporta wants Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin to become the first signing of his second tenure as the head of the Catalan giants.

Laporta was elected after winning Sunday’s vote with 57.6% ahead of Victor Font and Tony Freixa.

One of his pledges, , is to make Bellerin a priority in the transfer window this summer.

Arsenal are thought to be willing to let the Spaniard leave when the season ends and a return to Spain could prove appealing.

The 25-year-old has played 28 times in all competitions during 2020/21 but has only been on the bench for the last two Premier League games.

Bellerin arrived at Arsenal from Barcelona and initially joined the Hale End academy.

He has risen through the ranks to make 232 appearances for the club and has largely proved a decent player.

Injuries haven’t helped his consistency in recent times, however, and Arteta could be willing to let him leave.

have previously claimed that Arsenal are holding were holding out for a fee of £35 million for their defender.

Bellerin will have just two years left on his Gunners deal in the summer, however, and it remains to be seen if a deal can be struck.

The La Liga club are clearly close to Bellerin’s heart and he’d likely welcome a return to Spain.

Bellerin would surely relish the chance to continue playing regular football and that is something which might not be on the table at the Emirates next season.

The defender has been a decent servant to the Gunners over the year but injury has robbed him of more appearances in the team.

Barcelona aren’t in the best financial state right now but if a deal can be done it’s one that should suit everyone.

Arteta will be in the mood to reshape his squad again in the summer and next season’s plans might not include Bellerin.
