Report: Napoli eye move for £14m-rated Tottenham ace

Serie A club Napoli are eyeing up a move for Tottenham defender Ben Davies, according to The Spurs ace is currently with Wales at Euro 2020.

The 28-year-old is thought to be valued in the region of £14 million by Tottenham. He has two years left on his deal and the club could cash in.

Davies proved a backup option during 2020/21. He played 38 times in all competitions but was typically behind Sergio Reguilon in the pecking order.

Davies has proved a decent addition to the Tottenham ranks. He’s made 228 appearances for the club in total, scoring five goals and claiming 21 assists.

Despite that, it seems as though the club are now prepared to cash in on the defender. Napoli have turned their attentions to Davies after hitting the skids with a deal for Chelsea misfit Emerson Palmieri.

Napoli believe Fabio Paratici can help them land the Tottenham man. The Serie A club have a good relationship with the incoming Managing Director of Spurs.

Tottenham have already lost one left-back this summer. Danny Rose departed on a free transfer and has since joined Watford.

As a result, losing Davies would put them in a position where competition could be sought.

The man with 63 Wales caps earns at Tottenham and offloading him could help Spurs’ own recruitment drive.

Davies to Napoli: A move that makes perfect sense

Perhaps the time has come to offload Davies. Although he’s proved a decent player, Reguilon will remain the first choice next season.

At 28 this could be Tottenham’s last chance to get a decent sum for their player. With Napoli waiting to hand over almost £14 million, now looks a good time to cash in.

Now could be the time to get rid of him and hand a young defender the chance to act as Reguilon’s understudy.

Moving to Napoli would be a decent move for Davies too. The Welshman would get to continue playing for a top club and he would likely win a contract into his thirties.
