Report names the four candidates for the Spurs job
Tottenham Hotspur are seemingly hoping that one of Roberto Martinez, Erik ten Hag, Graham Potter or Ralf Rangnick will be their next boss, that they are the four candidates for the post.
Spurs continue to search for Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor. And if anything, the pressure to get the right person in has only increased in recent days.
As noted by The Athletic, Harry Kane wants to leave the club. So Daniel Levy will surely have to factor what Kane may make of the next manager into his thinking.
But it does appear that an announcement could be edging closer. that there are now four contenders for the post.
They suggest that Martinez, Rangnick, ten Hag and Potter are those under consideration. The report does note that other candidates could emerge – but that would hint that Levy would ideally like to appoint one of the quartet.
Appointing three of the four may not be easy. Potter will be focused on seeing out the season with Brighton, while Martinez will be looking further ahead as he prepares Belgium for Euro 2020.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag only recently extended his contract with Ajax (). So perhaps Tottenham are holding out hope that they can still convince him to move on. The Athletic’s sources do note that he is still expected to remain in Amsterdam.
Rangnick meanwhile, looks, on paper, to be the easiest to appoint right now. The 62-year-old is not currently at another club.

The four names arguably hint that Spurs are looking to revert back to appointing a manager who keeps one eye on the long-term project.
But it is surely fair to say that the four names will divide opinion. All of them have major plus points, but there are likely to be a variety of concerns amongst the fanbase.
Ten Hag is arguably the most exciting name on the list. But unlike Potter and Martinez, he has not worked in the Premier League. Martinez meanwhile, has spent several years out of the club game, so that may be deemed a roll of the dice by some.
Some may even have their doubts about ten Hag. They may be tempted to play down the scale of the achievement of a manager who wins the Eredivisie with a club with the stature of Ajax.
However, the talent of the players he has brought through and the run to the Champions League semi-final in the year Lucas Moura broke their hearts cannot be overlooked.
For that reason, perhaps ten Hag would be the right man to take Spurs forward – and potentially back amongst the heights they reached under Mauricio Pochettino.
