Report: Mourinho wants two Turkish stars at Tottenham, if they qualify for Champions League

that Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is a keen admirer of Turkish players and wants to bring Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir and Roma winger Cengiz Under to Spurs – on one condition.

Spurs currently sit in fifth position after an excellent 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday, and are now just four points behind Chelsea who could only draw against Leicester City. It has made a top-four finish a much bigger possibility.

Goalkeeper Cakir continues to be linked with the Premier League – with Liverpool also keen as per the report. It is believed the 23-year-old may cost a fee of around £21million, while Under continues to shine in Serie A for Roma.

Under, 22, has now played 82 times for Roma – having a hand in 27 goals, scoring 16 and creating 11. that Roma would be open to selling Under, if an offer of £34million is received.

TBR’s view – Surely Tottenham can do better?

Looking at both players 2019-20 campaigns so far, you would like to think so. Cakir has managed just three clean sheets in 31 outings and although the defence should take some blame – so should Cakir.

To spend £21million on him, then, is surely a risk when there are plenty of other decent goalkeepers out there for a similar price. Meanwhile, Under has managed just two goals and no assists in 17 games this term.

Yes, he has plenty of potential and has enjoyed much more prolific spells at Roma. But he is not the finished article and Steven Bergwijn is a better player. Spurs must scour the market carefully before picking their summer targets.
