It will be interesting to see how Mourinho’s stance impacts Rose’s thinking. The 29-year-old – who earns £60,000-a-week, – is yet to start a Premier League game under the Portuguese. And his last top flight appearance came back in November.

He has been one of the Premier League’s best full-backs for some time now. And it is difficult to imagine there not being a number of teams interested in offering him a fresh challenge next month.

The Telegraph notes that Rose is vying for a place in England’s Euro 2020 squad. So that could perhaps prove to be a factor in his thinking.

Rose may remain intent on seeing out his contract at Tottenham. But Mourinho is seemingly ready to leave the door open for the defender to move on next month.
