Report: Mourinho set to raid Tottenham for £21.5m player who ‘did everything’ for him
According to , Jose Mourinho is set to raid Tottenham Hotspur in hopes of taking Lucas Moura to Roma.
Mourinho has targeted a number of his former players, with Hugo Lloris among those , since agreeing a with the Serie A side.
The Portuguese coach also has eyes on signing Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka, AZ Alkmaar’s Teun Koopmeiners and Porto’s Sergio Oliveira. But Moura has entered into consideration having benefitted from Mourinho’s methods in north London.
Tottenham are expected to demand €25million (£21.5m) to sell Moura to Mourinho with three years remaining on the Brazilian’s contract. The 28-year-old penned his last , 18-months after arriving from Paris Saint-Germain for £23m ().
Moura’s salary demands are not expected to be a problem for Roma if they advance their interest. They can see value in a deal after he offered nine goals and five assists in last season.
He also told last summer that he enjoyed playing under and learning from Mourinho. And told the this March that he still believed in the Portuguese tactician, as well.
TBR’s view: Mourinho raiding Tottenham for Moura likely
Mourinho shared a mutual appreciation for Moura while the Tottenham boss, having been full of praise over the past year. The Portuguese now raiding north London for the winger is highly likely, then, as he knows what he can offer Roma.
“He did everything for us during the [2019/20] season,” Mourinho in August. “He played in every position, he played as a striker when we had no strikers – he had no rest, he had to play every match in every competition.
“It’s really amazing and shows the team player that he is. A team player, a consistent player, a player who sacrifices himself for the needs of the team. We have more, and I’m a fortunate coach, but Lucas is a good example.”
But Tottenham should be reluctant to part with a player of Moura’s ability and attitude, let alone at a loss. The next Spurs manager will also likely want him to occupy a key role in their plans. Especially with of Real Madrid loanee .
