Report: Mikel Arteta to hold talks over future of £31.5m Arsenal player at end of season

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is set for crunch talks with Gunners midfielder Matteo Guendouzi at the end of the season, according to .

Guendouzi has been frozen out at the Emirates Stadium in wake of him grabbing Brighton striker Neal Maupay by the throat towards the end of Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at the Amex Stadium.

Maupay suggested afterwards that the Gunners lacked “humility” and hinted at Guendouzi making disparaging comments during the game, which led to the pair clashing at full-time.

The claimed that there were taunts from the Arsenal man about how much he and his teammates earned compared to those of Brighton.

The outlet also suggested that Arteta has been keeping an eye on Guendouzi from early on in his tenure after re-watching training footage on one occasion and seeing the player “messing about”.

has now claimed that the two individuals not seeing eye to eye stemmed from a reported disagreement in Arsenal’s Dubai training camp after the midfielder had a bust-up with Sokratis.

Arteta and Guendouzi reportedly continued to argue in the team hotel, prompting veteran Arsenal defender David Luiz to apparently pull his young teammate aside and urge him to sort his attitude out.

Though the Frenchman returned to the first team after English football resumed, the Maupay incident was said to be the last straw for Arteta, culminating in the player now reportedly training alone.

adds that a meeting is scheduled at the end of the season to make a final decision on Guendouzi’s case and, unless he apologises and changes his attitude, it is “very unlikely” that he will be kept on.

The outlet claims all options are being considered – a sale, loan or part-exchange – for a player valued at 30m to 35m Euros (£27m to £31.5million).

TBR View:

It doesn’t matter how talented a player is – and Guendouzi is clearly very talented – if his attitude isn’t spot on, then there could be problems for the manager, and recent reports don’t seem to reflect well on Guendouzi.

There is definitely a great player in there, but if Arteta isn’t convinced come the end of the season, Arsenal should be able to make a decent profit on a player they signed for a reported and is now said to be on Real Madrid and Barcelona’s radar ().
