Report: Mikel Arteta makes contact with free agent, David Luiz acting as facilitator
that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made contact with Thiago Silva after the Brazil veteran was released by Paris Saint-Germain – and David Luiz is crucial to a deal being completed.
Silva, 35, who has spent eight years at PSG and won the Ligue 1 titles seven times – clocking up 310 appearances in all competitions – is one of many players leaving the French champions on a free this summer.
Thomas Meunier has joined Borussia Dortmund, while Edinson Cavani is also set to depart. Layvin Kurzawa has signed a new four-year deal with Thomas Tuchel’s side. But Silva is also set to leave.
While the report claims Carlo Ancelotti is looking to form a reunion at Everton after the two worked together at PSG, Arteta has made contact over a move to north London. Brazil and former PSG teammate Luiz is acting as facilitator.

TBR’s view – Silva would be the signing of Arsenal’s window
Without question. For years now, Arsenal have lacked a central defender with the leadership qualities and ability to match. Per Mertesacker, Luiz, Laurent Koscielny have been leaders – but did they have the quality?
Not as much as the likes of Sol Campbell, Martin Keown or Tony Adams. But Silva has both in abundance. Yes, he is 35, but he has two or three years left at the top level and Arsenal have got to do their best to sign him.
