Report: Mikel Arteta close to Arsenal sack, ex-Chelsea boss tops shortlist of replacements
that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is close to being sacked by the Gunners after a dismal start to the 2020-21 campaign – and a recently-sacked Chelsea boss leads the list of possible replacements.
The Gunners have struggled this season, after Arteta made a stunning start to life as Gunners boss – winning the FA Cup and Community Shield. Now, they sit in a lowly 14th place – last winning a Premier League game more than a month ago.
Arteta was viewed as the next long-term Arsenal manager but much like Unai Emery, he started well and has since struggled to get things going. Summer business has also come into question, namely Willian and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s new deal.
The report claims Arteta is getting ‘closer’ to the sack with sporting director Edu taking a close eye on proceedings – and it is believed that Maurizio Sarri, who left Juventus despite winning Serie A last season, is at the top of their shortlist.

TBR’s view – Surely not Sarri…
Sarri masterminded a win over Arsenal in the Europa League final in his last game as Blues boss before taking over at Juve, where he won the Serie A. But runners-up in the Coppa Italia and just the round of 16 in the Champions League saw him sacked.
On paper, Sarri is a top manager and his experience could be useful at Arsenal. But in real life, Sarri simply does not fit the modern aesthetic that the Gunners are looking to implement. That, and the fact he recently managed Arsenal’s London rivals.
It looks unlikely that Arteta will be sacked any time soon – and even more unlikely would be Sarri replacing him.
