Report: Mike Ashley sanctions massive £36m Newcastle bid

that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has sanctioned an enormous £36million move for Hoffenheim attacker Joelinton, after first being linked back in April.

Joelinton shone for the German Bundesliga side last season, scoring an enormous 11 goals and laid on another nine assists – during his 35 league and cup appearances for Hoffenheim.

The 22-year-old was linked with a move to Newcastle back in April, but it was deemed unlikely that The Toon would splash out an enormous fee – more than the £36million currently being quoted.

Now, owner Ashley is said to have sanctioned a £36million move to sign the young Brazilian. It would see Newcastle smash their club-record fee of £21million, which was only paid for Miguel Almiron in January.

Wolves are also said to have made an enquiry for Joelinton, but they are unwilling to meet Hoffenheim’s asking price. It is believed Hoffenheim want as much as £40million for the versatile attacker.

TBR’s view – Joelinton would be an amazing Newcastle signing

Joelinton has shown in the top tier of German football that he has the potential to become one of the best Brazilian attackers plying their trade in European football.

At £36million, he is arguably cheap given that he has proven himself in the Champions League and at the top of German football – especially considering he is just 22 years of age.

Way before his prime and boasting massive resale value, Joelinton is just what Ashley is looking for in a player and that may be why he has sanctioned the big-money transfer.
