Report: Mesut Ozil’s Fenerbahce looking to sign Arsenal player

that Mesut Ozil’s Fenerbahce have ‘rolled their sleeves up’ in their pursuit of Arsenal defender David Luiz, with the Brazilian set to leave the Gunners on a free transfer this summer – as confirmed by Mikel Arteta.

Luiz, 34, is set to leave Arsenal this summer after just two years at the club – in which he has clocked up 73 appearances in all competitions. There has been plenty of talks over whether he will be offered a new deal at The Emirates.

But Arteta,, has now confirmed that he will be leaving – stating that a new deal will not be offered to the ex-Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain man: “we decided it’s the best way to do it now.” Now, he could team up with Ozil.

It is stated that Fenerbahce have stepped up their bid to sign Luiz – with talks between the Turkish club and Luiz’s representatives said to be underway. However, Ozil’s Fener are unlikely to be the only team interested in signing the defender.

TBR’s view – Fenerbahce a solid move for Luiz

It is clear at Arsenal that Luiz has gone from being a solid Premier League defender to one that is struggling to keep up with the intensity and pace of Premier League football. Injuries have mounted up, and his form has been questionable when fit.

A move to a lesser league is needed. Luiz is a big Benfica fan having clocked up 130 appearances for the Portuguese side and Benfica could be interested. But a move to Turkish football would be a good move for Luiz.
