Report: Mesut Ozil makes proposal to Arsenal that would see him leave this month
Mesut Ozil has reportedly come up with a compromise that will help Arsenal move him on this month, but it would involve the German star remaining in the books in North London for a considerable amount of time.
, who suggest the plan Ozil has put forward would see the remainder of his wages paid out over an extended period.
Ozil is persona non grata at Arsenal and the club are desperate to get his reported £350,000-a-week salary off the wage-bill.
The playmaker has several clubs interested in his services this month, including Fenerbahce and DC United, but both would only be able to do a deal if Ozil was available as a free agent. That would mean Arsenal paying out the rest of Ozil’s contract to terminate his current deal, at a whopping cost of £8.75 million.

Ozil’s proposition would see Arsenal pay him £68,000-a-week for the next two-and-a-half years as a severance package. He would then be free to find a new club this month.

Whilst it would mean Arsenal having a longer-term attachment to Ozil, it would soften the immediate financial burden of termination or paying out the rest of his contract over the next six months.
The World Cup-winning star has not played for Arsenal since a Premier League fixture against West Ham last March.
It is a tough balancing act for Arsenal. They can either bite the bullet and pay big now or let Ozil linger around and spread the cost over a longer period.
With finances clearly tight at Arsenal at present, they may very well be tempted by Ozil’s apparent offer.
It would mean getting him out of the club and moving on from his era once and for all.
Arsenal clearly have plenty to consider.
