Report: Mauricio Pochettino plans January exodus with five Tottenham players up for sale
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is ready to get rid of players in January with five potential outgoings, .
Pochettino will get rid of the players he feels are not pulling their weight. Serge Aurier, Eric Dier, Christian Eriksen, Danny Rose and Victor Wanyama could be on their way out this winter.
Spurs currently sit in mid-table going into the international break. They are also out of the EFL Cup after an embarrassing loss against Colchester and they have one point from two Champions League games.
Pochettino’s future is in doubt but he plans a clear-out if he keeps his job. Eriksen, who is widely criticised for his form and desire to leave, will be allowed to leave with just half a season remaining on his contract.
Defenders Aurier and Rose will also leave if a decent offer comes in – suggesting Pochettino is ready to buy a new full-back. Meanwhile, Tottenham will listen to offers for midfield duo Dier and Wanyama.
This report adds that all five of these players were expected to leave last summer. There is a lingering negative attitude now as there are several players in the squad who know they are not wanted.
TBR’s view
If Pochettino does not see these five players in his plans, he should have got rid of them in the summer. But January is now the next opportunity to get things right.
Aurier has failed to fill Kieran Trippier’s boots at right-back while Rose’s form continues to be inconsistent. Ryan Sessegnon’s return to fitness could be the final nail in the coffin for the England left-back.
Rose’s England team-mate Dier couldn’t get a game earlier this season. Since returning, he hasn’t changed Pochettino’s mind while Wanyama’s form has dipped significantly recently.
Eriksen is the main one to offload, though. Spurs face a battle trying to get the right price for the Denmark midfielder who wants out. European clubs might try to sign him on a pre-contract instead.
