Report: Matty Cash to have Aston Villa medical by Thursday ahead of £16m move

Aston Villa are reportedly set to win the race to sign defender Matty Cash from English Championship side Nottingham Forest.

, Dean Smith’s side are expected to sign the right-back in a £16million deal and he will undergo a medical in the next 24 hours, meaning he could end up joining by Thursday.

It is understood that Villa will pay £14million up front for the full-back and there is an extra £2million in add-ons.

The report explains that West Midlands outfit have beaten off competition from two Premier League rivals in Sheffield United and Fulham, who both wanted to sign the highly-rated 23-year-old.

TBR’s View – Cash a great signing for Villa

It’s been proven in recent years that there are some real hidden gems waiting to be signed from Championship club and it looks like Villa are on the verge of snapping one up.

Cash came through the Forest academy and first broke into the first-team as a midfielder, but he’s been fully converted into a right-back at the City Ground and it’s taken his game to new levels.

He is an attack-minded defender that offers such a threat going forward with his overlapping runs, scoring three goals and supplying five assists last season.

But the Englishman also has phenomenal stamina and is dogged with his aggressive defensive style, so he looks ready to make the jump up to the Premier League.
