Report: Massimo Cellino wants Leeds player – for nothing

The that Massimo Cellino wants to raid Leeds United and sign Barry Douglas on a free – for Italian side Brescia. Cellino, who bought Brescia in 2017 after leaving Leeds, is looking to get his side promoted into Serie A. Talks have been held, and a deal has been tabled.

Douglas, 31, is about to see his contract expire at Leeds. The one-time Scotland international pretty much ended his Leeds spell last summer – joining Blackburn on loan in the final year of his contract. A permanent deal at Ewood Park was expected, but nothing has gone through.

Plenty of speculation has been had regarding the future of Douglas. Both Celtic and Rangers have been linked, but it appears Cellino is in the mood for the ex-Dundee United man. Whether Douglas will be tempted by a move to Italy’s second tier remains to be seen. His contract ends on Wednesday.

Where will Leeds man Douglas end up?

The defender has recently spoken of how he enjoys playing in the Championship. Bristol City are said to be leading the charge and the Robins are renowned for signing big-name players on free transfers. A move to Ashton Gate would make sense.

Douglas has a young family, recently becoming a Father for a second time. The chances of him moving to a new country are small – but the temptation of Italy could prove tempting to Douglas. Of course, he has played in Turkey and Poland throughout his career. But staying in England is more likely.
