Report: Marvelous Nakamba trying to force move to Aston Villa after £9m bid

Aston Villa have already signed Brazilian striker Wesley Moraes from Club Brugge this summer. And the club are trying to snap up his team-mate Marvelous Nakamba.

The latest update on Aston Villa’s pursuit of Nakamba has been . Nakamba is reportedly refusing to train with Club Brugge in order to force through a summer move to Aston Villa.

Dean Smith wants to sign a new holding midfielder this summer and Nakamba looks like his top choice. The Villans have launched a £9m bid for the 25-year-old but Club Brugge do not feel that this is a high enough figure.

But Aston Villa will be boosted by the fact that the Zimbabwe international is looking to complete this move imminently. Nakamba wants this deal to be completed today (Monday 15th July) but that is looking increasingly unlikely at this stage. However, Aston Villa will still hope to wrap this deal up soon.

Nakamba: Aston Villa’s missing link?

Aston Villa need to fill that hole between the defence and midfield. Glenn Whelan operated in that role last season but he has been released; he would not have the legs to compete in that position in the top-flight.

Nakamba is exactly the type of player Aston Villa need. He is tenacious, energetic and a tough-tackler in the midfield. Nakamba is also at a good age to develop his game in the Premier League and following Wesley seems like a sensible career choice.

Douglas Luiz is also expected to join Aston Villa so Smith should have two solid options competing for the holding midfield role if they both join.
