Report: Marseille eye move for Arsenal youngster Matteo Guendouzi
Marseille are hoping to secure a deal to sign Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi ahead of next season. , the Gunners talent is in discussions with the Ligue 1 outfit over a move.
Guendouzi fell out of favour under Mikel Arteta last season. After a performance at Brighton, he lost his way and wasn’t called upon again by the Spanish boss.
Ahead of the current campaign, he was loaned out to Hertha Berlin. During his season in the Bundesliga, he has scored two goals and claimed three assists in 24 appearances.
Guendouzi is only 22-years-old and has plenty of time left to develop. It doesn’t seem as though another chance will be forthcoming, however, with Arsenal eyeing midfield options of their own.
Hertha Berlin have a clause in their loan agreement that allows them to sign him for in the summer. At this stage, however, it looks highly unlikely they will activate the clause.
Upon his return to Arsenal, it seems as though they will hope to recoup a similar sum for his services. Guendouzi has potential and has also played 82 times in the red and white of the Gunners.
Marseille are on course for a Europa League berth. They currently sit fifth in the Ligue 1 table with two games remaining, with Lens and Rennes on their coat-tails.

The youngster is a spent force at the Gunners and they have to find a way to move him on in the summer. Arteta will have designs for a new-look squad and he can’t afford to be clinging on to players who are surplus to requirements.
Guendouzi earns at the Emirates Stadium and having such a salary off the wage bill would help the Gunners in their quest to sign their own new recruits.
Arsenal might not have European football on the table next season and they must cut their cloth accordingly. As a result, cashing in on players like Guendouzi makes perfect sense.
