Report: Manchester United, Wolves, and Aston Villa had scouted £17m Rangers star

claim Aston Villa, Wolves and Manchester United had all scouted Rangers defender Nathan Patterson – but it appears the Scotland ace is about to join Everton in a deal worth a huge £17million.

Patterson, 20, is arguably one of the best young talents to come through the ranks at Rangers in recent seasons. Steven Gerrard oversaw his development, but could rarely give him game time – due to captain James Tavernier.

However, in his 27 senior appearances for the Gers, he has certainly caught the eye. Indeed, Patterson did enough to win a place in Scotland’s Euro 2020 side in the summer – and has seemingly impressed scouts from other clubs, too.

that Everton will be paying a £12million fee up top, which could reach £17million. A hefty fee, one that put Villa, Wolves and United off – who preferred a summer move. All three had watched the Rangers star play.

Patterson to Everton: Goodison was Rangers star’s best move

At Villa, Poland international Matty Cash is easily the club’s best option and would keep Patterson on the sidelines. Diego Dalot has rejuvenated his United career with Aaron Wan-Bissaka also a £50million player.

Wolves boast Nelson Semedo and Ki-Jana Hoever as options. So, the best move was really Everton for Patterson. That is, because Seamus Coleman is now 33 – and Jonjoe Kenny is surplus to requirements.

In regards to game time, a path into the first team and furthering his development – Everton was Patterson’s best choice of the four options. A deal is expected to go through in the coming days.
