Report: Manchester United see initial approach for Aston Villa star rejected

Manchester United have seen an initial approach for Aston Villa star Jack Grealish rejected by the West Midlands-based club,

The Red Devils added Bruno Fernandes to their ranks during January and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will hope for recruits boasting similar quality during the summer.

Ed Woodward will hope to flex his ambition and prove he has what it takes to sign the players that United supporters desperately crave to see at Old Trafford.

It seems the pursuit of Grealish could be his toughest negotiation yet, however.

It’s unsure what Villa value Grealish at, although the fee will be substantially lower if the Villans fail to maintain their status as a Premier League club.

Dean Smith’s team are 19th in the division and relegation would probably see them sell the likes of Grealish, John McGinn and Tyrone Mings at lower rates.

The 24-year-old has scored nine goals and registered eight assists during 2019/20, including a stunning striker during a 2-2 draw with United at Old Trafford.

With Premier League football not due to return until 30th June at the earliest, United are getting their ducks in a row ready for the transfer market to open.

Grealish seems likely to be right at the top of Solskjaer’s list of targets and it’s easy to see why.

He has proved himself capable of playing in a number of positions this season, with Smith utilising him on the left, as a No.10 and in central midfield.

Grealish is paid at Villa Park and even if the club does stay up, the creative spark could still head for Old Trafford.
