Report: Manchester United interested in Asmir Begovic move

Manchester United are interested in signing Asmir Begovic, that the club view the Everton goalkeeper as the perfect backup for David De Gea.

The goalkeeper situation at Old Trafford is under the spotlight right now after a difficult start to the season. Erik ten Hag’s men let Dean Henderson leave on loan in the summer.

And unfortunately, De Gea – like many teammates – has had a tough time. He was at fault for two of Brentford’s goals at the weekend.

It does not appear that Manchester United are looking to sign a new number one however. Instead, they are hoping to sign a backup in the near future.

, United want Begovic. In fact, they view the 35-year-old as the perfect backup for the Spaniard at Old Trafford.

The problem however, is that Everton have little interest in letting Begovic leave. And United know that Frank Lampard would need to find a replacement before sanctioning his departure.

Manchester United interested in Begovic

Begovic has been a decent goalkeeper in the Premier League. He has previously been a regular starter at the highest level with the likes of Stoke and Bournemouth.

He has done a reasonable job for Everton given he has barely been needed. And he counts as a homegrown player. So he also helps on that front.

It is hard to imagine that Manchester United would be keen on paying any sort of significant fee. So Everton are under little pressure to sell – unless Begovic decides that he wants to go.

And he may feel that way. In truth, his path to the starting lineup is probably clearer at Manchester United than it is at Everton right now.
