Report: Manchester City lead race for free agent; could be ‘another genius move by Pep’
Manchester City are reportedly in pole position to complete a transfer for former Real Madrid star and captain Sergio Ramos.
, the 35-year-old centre-back’s representatives have been in contact with the Premier League champions for some time.
Manchester United and PSG are also believed to be interested in Ramos, who this week left Los Blancos.
As per the report, signing Ramos could be ‘another genius move by Pep’. that Aymeric Laporte might leave City this summer for FC Barcelona.
The Manchester giants have already lost Eric Garcia to the Catalan giants this summer. Whilst striker Sergio Aguero also joined Barcelona on a free transfer following the end of his contract with City.
Ramos transfer would be blockbuster
Ruben Dias and John Stones were easily the Premier League’s best centre-back pairing last season. Yet the addition of Ramos, even at the age of 35, would be a blockbuster deal for the reigning Premier League champions.
The former Real Madrid captain is a breed of a player and a serial winner that is hard to find in the modern game.
And despite his veteran age, there is no doubt Ramos would be welcomed at City with open arms and an ambition to win silverware.
Indeed, the centre-back has won the UEFA Champions League four times in his esteemed career, and could be the missing piece City need to add this allusive honour to their trophy cabinet.
City must offer Ramos one-year deal
Ramos will be highly touted by some of Europe’s top clubs this summer. And for City, the Spanish international is simply too good an option to pass on.
The ex-Madrid skipper is a proven winner during his years with the Spanish giants and will offer extra leadership to the squad in their pursuit to win the Champions League. Something that will no doubt be on every player’s mind following last month’s collapse in Porto.
