Report: Manchester City could sign Nuno Mendes and loan him back to Sporting
Manchester City could be willing to sign Sporting Lisbon starlet Nuno Mendes, and then loan him back to the Portugese club for next season.
That is according to , who claim there is ‘potential’ for that sort of deal to happen, if City are indeed willing to meet Mendes’ apparent £59.5m release clause.
Mendes has been tipped for a move to England for a number of months now. The likes of City, along with Liverpool and Manchester United, are all said to be keen on the young left-back.

The teenager has shot to prominence this season with a number of fine performances for Sporting Lisbon. Mendes has already made his debut for the Portuguese national team, having started 20 out of 24 for Lisbon this term.
City are expected to make some moves this summer as they continue to replace experienced players. Sergio Aguero is leaving, while Benjamin Mendy could also be sold to make room for Mendes.
TBR View: City should just pay the money for Mendes, he is going to be world-class
Guardiola’s men haven’t been averse to spending big on players in defence in recent seasons and they should continue that trend when it comes to Nuno Mendes.
The teenager is a class act already and is only going to get better and better. The idea of leaving him in Lisbon for a year makes sense and could well give them the advantage in the market, too.
£60m sounds a lot of money, especially after the pandemic. But if anyone can pay it, then it will be City.
