Report: Lyon want Tottenham right-back Serge Aurier

Lyon have joined the race to sign Serge Aurier from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, that the right-back is not particularly interested in joining the Ligue 1 side.

The 27-year-old is yet to feature in the Premier League for Spurs this season. He has however, been involved in both the Carabao Cup and the Europa League qualifiers.

that Spurs would be willing to let him leave. It is suggested that they want around £18.3 million (€20 million) for the Ivory Coast international.

And Foot Mercato also claims that Lyon are interested after selling two of their right-backs earlier in the window. However, it is also noted that Aurier – who is also on AC Milan’s radar – is not particularly interested in joining Les Gones.

Lyon finished worse than fourth in Ligue 1 for the first time since 2014 last season. Unlike Milan, they cannot offer Aurier the chance to play in Europe this term.

So perhaps that is a factor behind the defender’s reported reluctance to consider a return to France.

It will be interesting to see whether that stance changes as the deadlines edges closer. Matt Doherty looks set to be Jose Mourinho’s first choice right-back throughout the campaign.

And if a move elsewhere is unlikely, perhaps Lyon will start to become a more appealing option to Aurier.
