But it appears that Favre may be ready to rival anyone keen on the role. , the former Borussia Dortmund boss is interested in heading to the Scottish Premiership giants.

The 63-year-old left the Westfalenstadion in December. Dortmund were struggling domestically. But he did guide the Bundesliga side to the top of their Champions League group this season.

He has previously enjoyed some success with the likes of Nice, Borussia Monchengladbach and Hertha Berlin. And his teams have tended to play an exciting brand of football.

It would arguably be a big statement from Celtic therefore, to appoint someone such as Favre.

There seems a lot of work for the next manager to do to elevate the Hoops back towards the summit of Scottish football.

Favre has proved that he can bring players on and take their games to the next level. So you could understand if plenty of Celtic fans felt that he could be the ideal candidate to take the Bhoys forward.
