Report: Lucien Favre interested in becoming Newcastle manager

Lucien Favre is interested in becoming the new manager of Newcastle United, that he is unlikely to say no should the Magpies come calling.

Steve Bruce remains the current boss at St James’ Park. However, the Guardian notes that he is looking set to be dismissed.

Graeme Jones is likely to be the man to lead Newcastle in their Premier League clash with Tottenham this weekend.

But the club are considering a host of names. And amongst those on their radar is Favre.

The Swiss is out of work having left Borussia Dortmund last year. that he rejected the chance to join Crystal Palace over the summer.

But it seems that Newcastle will have more luck should they approach the 63-year-old.

The Guardian reports that Favre is interested and unlikely to say no to the chance to succeed Bruce on Tyneside.

Favre may be a name that divides some of the Newcastle fans. Many, in truth, will simply welcome the decision to let Bruce go.

Favre has managed nearly 750 games during his career. And at no club has he managed fewer than 83 fixtures.

He also boasts some impressive teams on his CV. Obviously, Dortmund is the standout. But he was also at Nice, Hertha Berlin and Borussia Monchengladbach in the last 15 years.

He also encourages his sides to play attractive, attacking football. So there is every chance that he could be an exciting choice.

He is perhaps not the highest-profile name to have been linked with the post. But Newcastle need to make sure that they remain in the Premier League this term.

So his availability is certainly likely to see another tick appear by his name.
