Martin Skrtel has long been linked with a move to Rangers but the free agent defender is finally set to join a new club, with that Skrtel is set for a move to Italy.
towards the end of June that 34-year-old Skrtel and his representatives were to meet with Rangers for talks, over whether the Gers could afford to bring Steven Gerrard’s ex-Liverpool teammate to Ibrox.
But a move has failed to materialise, despite Skrtel being linked with Rangers in all three transfer windows since Gerrard took over as manager. Skrtel is currently a free agent after being released by Fenerbahce.
However, Di Marzio has claimed that the former Liverpool star is on his way to Serie A for the first time in his career. Indeed, he is undergoing a medical at top-tier Italian side Atalanta – who finished third in Serie A last season.

TBR’s view – Excellent move for Skrtel, Rangers will get by
A move to Atalanta will have Skrtel buzzing. Indeed, the club finished well above expectations last season and qualified for the Champions League by finishing as high as third – above Inter, AC Milan and AS Roma.
It would suggest that Rangers are missing out, but the experienced defender was simply too expensive. The Scottish Premiership is fast-paced, and the likes of Philippe Senderos and Bruno Alves have struggled in a Light Blue shirt.
Alves has since moved to Italy and shone with Parma. It shows that the Scottish Premiership simply is not for the elder centre-back – just ask Marvin Compper – whereas Italy is. A move that is probably best for Rangers, and Skrtel.
