Report: London club rivalling Southampton for transfer of 9-goal wizard
Southampton are battling a top London-based Premier League side for Celta Vigo winger Brais Mendez, according to .
Premier League clubs have flooded Celta Vigo with approaches this summer as they assess Mendez’s availability for a transfer. The Spanish wizard entered the off-season after his in front of the goal.
Mendez scored nine times in 34 games as a versatile weapon in Os Celestes’ arsenal. He failed to register an assist for the first time but stood out strongly at the Estadio de Balaidos, nonetheless.

Luis Enrique was one to admire Mendez after his showing in Celta Vigo colours last season. The Spain boss named the 24-year-old among his reserve options for Euro 2020 after Sergio Busquets tested positive for coronavirus.
Mendez ultimately did not receive a call-up, but could now be set for a move away from La Liga. Lyon are considering taking the forward to France as they strive to move back into title contention.
Southampton and Norwich are also exploring a route to the Premier League following the Canaries promotion as Championship title winners. But could yet face competition from a top London-based club who admire what Mendez can bring to the capital.
TBR’s view: Southampton should sign Mendez
Southampton will likely face a lot of competition for Mendez, but the Saints should do what they can to sign the Celta Vigo star. Versatility is a key trait he would bring to St Mary’s, having flourished in a number of roles in Spain.
Mendez is naturally a winger but is comfortable playing centrally in behind the striker or in a deeper midfield role. He featured in for Celta Vigo last season, and goals followed from wide, central and deep areas.
The Celta Vigo product would also give Ralph Hasenhuttl a regular option. He only missed four La Liga fixtures last season and has played in each of the past three terms. If the price is right, then, Southampton should not pass on a deal.
