Report: Liverpool were set to sell six potential first-team players, market has changed
Liverpool were reportedly willing to sell six potential first-team players this summer, according
None of the names are likely to come as a surprise to Liverpool fans, as they have been mentioned in the past.
The players in question are Divock Origi, Dejan Lovren, Xherdan Shaqiri, Loris Karius, Harry Wilson, and Marko Grujic.
Karius, Wilson and Grujic have been out on loan this season and it appears they have not done enough to warrant a new chance at Anfield.
Shaqiri has been a bit-part player for most of the season and is after more regular first-team football. Lovren is Liverpool’s fourth-choice centre-back, behind Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip. Origi was seemingly set to be replaced by long-term target Timo Werner as Liverpool’s fourth attacking option. However, the German is now set for Chelsea.
Whilst this appeared to be the plan for Liverpool, it no longer looks like a likely scenario.
It appears that the ongoing global health crisis may have scuppered these plans.
Teams across the globe are struggling to find transfer funds for this summer, leaving Liverpool with a tough task finding buyers for the players in question.
It could be that the six now get used as bargaining chips in potential swap deals but with Liverpool seemingly happy with the makeup of their current squad it is hard to see who Jurgen Klopp might be looking to bring in.
Indeed, it could be the six players in question are either likely to leave on loan, or find themselves battling for first-team football at Anfield next season.
