Report: Liverpool want £6 million for Loris Karius with Montpellier keen

Liverpool are willing to sell out of favour goalkeeper Loris Karius this summer but will want a figure in the region of £6 million to do so. 

, who highlight the interest of the French side Montpellier in the German’s services. 

The report claims that the Ligue 1 side could replace current loanee Geronimo Rulli with Karius, with Hertha Berlin being overtaken in their interest in Karius. 

Liverpool are however seemingly adamant about making some money on the former Mainz player and it will take £6 million for him to be sold. 

Karius has spent the last two seasons on loan at Besiktas, an agreement that ended in acrimony earlier this year. That came after his poor, concussion-related, display against Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League final which prompted Liverpool to sign the imperious Alisson from Roma. 

After his spell with Besiktas ended, and lockdown was lifted in the UK, Karius did not return to Melwood for training, instead heading back to Germany and training alone. 

But whilst Liverpool seem keen to move Karius on, the player himself that he would only leave Liverpool for guaranteed first-team football and could easily stay at Anfield as second-choice keeper, highlighting ‘great conditions’ on Merseyside:

“I can accelerate in training at Liverpool. As the second goalkeeper in England you know that you get your games. I am currently at the best club in the world, playing for titles, have the highest level around me every day in training. I am fully aware that I am in a good position to be in Liverpool. I have great conditions there.”

So moving Karius out of Anfield might not be as straightforward as Liverpool think, with the German clearly comfortable with the idea of staying put if need be. 

Liverpool fans will no doubt hope the club can get a deal done for the player, who now has no chance of a first-team future at Anfield. 

If the club can raise £6 million from his sale, then perhaps it can go toward some transfer business of their own this summer.
