Report: Liverpool told 24-year-old bruiser will cost £24m, Reds want him cheaper
that Liverpool have been told by Borussia Monchengladbach that Denis Zakaria will still cost a hefty £24million in January – despite the midfielder being out of contract next summer.
Zakaria, 24, is regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the Bundesliga – starring for Gladbach since joining the club in 2017. He has clocked up 141 appearances for Gladbach in his four years.
Able to play in defence or midfield, the 40-time Switzerland star has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League in recent seasons. Now, a move is growing closer due to his contract situation.
Liverpool, though, are not alone in pursuit of the Gladbach ace. CalcioMercato report that Juventus, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also taking a look at Zakaria –
The Mail report that despite his contract situation, Liverpool would have to pay £24million to sign the Swiss star. However, Michael Edwards is trying to get that fee reduced next month.

Zakaria price tag: Liverpool should not pay as much as £24million
Gladbach are not blessed with massive wealth and they will want to sell Zakaria, rather than letting him go for nothing in the summer. It is already a blow, given Zakaria was worth a lot more – non-contract dependant.
But £24million for a player they can sign for nothing in the summer is expensive. Liverpool are not crying out for a holding midfielder, but will want to replace James Milner next summer.
Zakaria is ideal, but Liverpool should not go any higher than £15million to get their man.
