Report: Liverpool to allow Nat Phillips to leave, permanent exit ‘more likely’

Liverpool will reportedly allow central defender Nat Phillips to leave the club this window, with a permanent departure ‘more likely’ than another loan.

Reds officials are open to another temporary switch for the 23-year-old, but would prefer to sanction a more definitive exit for the player.

The outlet also say there is interest from the Championship’s Bristol City.

Phillips has been with Liverpool since 2016, joining from Bolton Wanderers’ academy.

The star made his debut for the club earlier this year against Everton in the FA Cup, after being recalled early from his loan to Stuttgart, whom he was then sent back to after the Toffees clash.

Phillips caught the eye for the German outfit, and helped them clinch promotion back to the Bundesliga.

It appears he didn’t quite do enough to convince Jurgen Klopp to make him his fourth-choice central defender though.

The Reds currently need someone to replace the departed Dejan Lovren, and the latest about Phillips may suggest Ki-Jana Hoever or Sepp van den Berg will get the nod.

At the age of 23, it is important for him to be playing regular men’s football as opposed to youth football.

Liverpool sold Ryan Kent for that reason, and the star is now flourishing at Rangers.

Phillips is a very talented centre-back, and could prove to be a real coup for a Championship team.

Blackburn Rovers are interested, as well as Bristol City, and a move to the English second tier would be a great experience for the youngster.
