Report: Liverpool submit bid for Turkish goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir

Liverpool have reportedly made a move to secure their third signing of the January transfer window. The Merseyside club have already secured deals for Takumi Minamino and Joe Hardy and have now made a bid for a third signing.

According to , Liverpool have submitted a bid for Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir. The 23-year-old is part of the team that is currently sat third in the Super Lig.

The 23-year-old has made two appearances for the Turkey national team and is reportedly valued at around £15 million. Despite signing a back-up goalkeeper in Adrian just months ago, Liverpool are seemingly interested in bringing in a younger deputy to Alisson.

Adrian is 33-years-old and is unlikely to provide sufficient cover in years to come if Alisson suffers another serious injury. Signing a highly rated youngster like Cakir could be a smart move by Klopp. He could come in and learn a lot when training with two very experienced goalkeepers.

The president of the Turkish side admitted that they would struggle to prevent the move: ”There are offers for Cakir, we continue to receive offers. It’s been said Liverpool have made an offer. So a team that is undefeated in the Premier League wants my keeper. In other words, Liverpool’s goalkeeper is in my goal.”

Despite it seeming like a smart piece of business, it is worth pointing out the lack of clean sheets Cakir has kept this season. In 16 league appearances, he has only managed two. Although that does not tell the full story of a goalkeeper’s ability, it is a concerning statistic.
