Report: Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster to receive first-team promotion to cover for Divock Origi

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hatched a plan to cover for Divock Origi. , Rhian Brewster is in line to earn himself a promotion to the first-team.

Brewster was in the U23 team for Liverpool against Derby County on Saturday afternoon. But after Origi suffered an injury in Saturday’s early kick-off, Brewster was subbed off after 15 minutes.

Origi started the game against Newcastle but had to be replaced by Roberto Firmino. The Belgian striker suffered an ankle injury and Liverpool are awaiting the results of his scan.

Without Origi, Liverpool’s striker options are depleted. Behind Firmino and Origi, Brewster is the next in line to take a place in the squad. Klopp is likely to include him in the squad to travel to Italy and take on Napoli in the Champions League.

TBR’s view

While Origi’s injury is unfortunate, it could be the making of Brewster. The 19-year-old showed during pre-season that he is good enough to compete for a first-team squad spot, although he is still not back to full fitness.

Brewster is prolific in the youth team but this could be his chance to show he can step up. Klopp rates the England U21 starlet very highly and he could be the next big thing at Anfield.
