Report: Liverpool seek further info on £13.5m target deemed ‘one of the best’ in his position

Liverpool have asked Anfield cult hero Martin Skrtel for information on Ugurcan Cakir, according to a report in Turkish outlet .

Cakir is a 23-year-old goalkeeper who plies his trade for Trabzonspor and is believed to have been on the Reds radar for some time.

Indeed, Liverpool reportedly saw a €15million (£13.5million) offer rejected last summer, according to Turkish outlet , via .

Jurgen Klopp’s charges ended up signing Adrian instead but following his errors in the Champions League last-16 second leg, the Reds could potentially be looking at Cakir once again, if the report is to be believed.

The report states that Liverpool have asked Skrtel – who currently plays for Super Lig rivals Basaksehir – to hear what he thinks about the Turkey international.

Liverpool had reportedly planned to send a scout to watch the keeper in action for Trabzonspor against Basaksehir, but had to shelve their plans due to the issues caused by the global health crisis.

With football having ground to a halt, clubs and scouts are having to do their work by other means, so it makes sense for the Reds seemingly asking one of their former players for his thoughts.

Interestingly, a scout from another Premier League football club has praised Cakir and potentially also revealed Liverpool’s interest in him.

“One of the best goalkeepers I have seen in my life,” Leicester City’s Lee Congerton told the . “I was wondering who the goalkeeper was that Liverpool offered £22million (for).”
