Report: Liverpool right-back Neco Williams set to agree five-year contract

that Neco Williams is set to put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp looks to reward the Reds teenager following his breakthrough season at Anfield under the German boss.

Williams, 19, had entered the final 12 months of his contract at Liverpool. But the Wales youth international managed 11 senior outings during 2019-20, even making six Premier League appearances after the restart.

Now it appears that Liverpool are keen to tie down the right-back’s long-term future, with Williams likely to provide cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold over the course of the next campaign at least.

The deal is expected to see Williams earn improved terms as a reward for his breakthrough into the senior team. Williams follows Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott, who have recently penned new deals.

TBR’s view – Williams more than deserving of five-year deal

Certainly, he does not deserve to be in the final 12 months of his current deal. Williams has saved the club a lot of money, with his breakthrough likely to see Liverpool decide against spending big on cover for Alexander-Arnold.

It is something Yasser Larouci has failed to do at left-back. That has seen Liverpool decide to bring in Olympiakos defender Konstantinos Tsimikas to cover Andy Robertson – but Williams look set to back-up Alexander-Arnold.
