Report: Liverpool ready to rival Jose Mourinho for Thomas Meunier

Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Belgium international right-back Thomas Meunier this summer,

The PSG star is out of contract next month and has been linked with moves across Europe and the Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur have repeatedly been attributed with an interest in the player.

Jose Mourinho has personally spoken to Meunier about solving his right-back problemsthat Mourinho has been trying to convince Daniel Levy to change his views on signing players in Meunier’s age-bracket in order to get a deal done.

But Mourinho and Spurs will face competition from the Champions-in-waiting as Liverpool consider a move for the freebie.

that Jurgen Klopp’s side has now registered an interest with the player’s agent regarding a move to Anfield.

He would be used as a back-up to Trent-Alexander Arnold. However, with some suggesting the England international could play in a more advanced role next season, he could perhaps free up the youngster to play in a more influential role.

Borussia Dortmund and Napoli are also keen on Meunier and Liverpool will undoubtedly face a tough task talking Meunier into a Melwood move.

He would likely become the starting right-back at Tottenham, Dortmund, or Napoli, whereas at Liverpool he would likely spend more time on the bench.

However, he would be joining one of the best teams in Europe and get to work with Jurgen Klopp should he make a switch to Merseyside.

This will be a tough deal to get done, considering the lack of first-team exposure that Meunier would get at Anfield. But with free transfers likely to be the main currency in the transfer market this summer, Liverpool are right to be probing a deal for the 28-year-old talent.
