Hoever caught the eye last season, playing for Liverpool in the FA Cup against Wolves. This season, he made his second Liverpool appearance, scoring a header against MK Dons in the EFL Cup. He operates at centre-back or right-back and recently impressed at the U17 World Cup.

Liverpool also signed another young Dutchman in the summer – van den Berg. The teenager had already played for PEC Zwolle. Since moving to Liverpool, he has played twice – both in the EFL Cup.

The Reds are prepared to give these two long-term deals on their respective 18th birthdays. Hoever turns 18 in mid-January while van den Berg’s birthday is just before Christmas.

TBR’s view

If these two fulfil their potential, they will become Liverpool stars of the future. At the age of 17, they have already gained some first-team experience and they have looked comfortable.

It will take some time to replace Virgil Van Dijk in the starting line-up. But Hoever and van den Berg could lead a new era at Liverpool.
