Report: Liverpool now in talks to extend another player’s contract after Van Dijk extension

According to , Liverpool are in talks with Naby Keita over a new contract, with his current terms set to expire in 2023.
What’s the story?
Well, the Italian news outlet believe Liverpool have now turned their attentions to the 26-year-old.
Over the summer, the Reds sorted out new deals for Jordan Henderson, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Fabinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Despite some flashes of his quality, injuries have prevented him from nailing down a regular spot in Jürgen Klopp’s starting XI.
Liverpool clearly believe in Naby Keita

With his current terms expiring in 2023, the summer of 2022 would be the time to cash in on Keita while his value is still high.
However, the fact Liverpool are instead trying to tie the midfielder down for the next few years suggest they clearly have faith in him.
It would be quite easy for the Reds to cut their losses on Keita.
He hasn’t really lived up to his price tag, and is one of Liverpool’s highest earners on .

Klopp also has quite a few midfielders already at his disposal.
The German can choose from Fabinho, Thiago, Henderson, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner, as well as Harvey Elliott when he’s back.
In that respect, Klopp clearly values what Keita can offer, and wants to give him more chances to become an Anfield favourite.
He certainly has the talent. Liverpool just have to find a way to keep their No.8 injury free, or else the contract renewal will be a waste of time.
