Report: Liverpool make contact over Ozan Kabak after David Wagner tip

Liverpool have now reportedly made contact with German side Schalke regarding a potential deal for their Turkish defender Ozan Kabak.

That is who claim that Liverpool have now been in touch with the Gelsenkirchen club regarding a deal for the 20-year-old talent.

It is suggested that Schalke boss David Wagner, a former colleague of Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, tipped off the Liverpool manager regarding Kabak’s talents last year. Now, Liverpool are ready to make a move for the youngster as they look to add a defensive reinforcement.

Liverpool have just sold Dejan Lovren to Russian giants Zenit and are therefore looking for a replacement.

However, the report also makes it clear that Liverpool will not pay the player’s current £40 million release clause. The current contract between the two clubs is therefore likely to revolve around the potential lowering of that fee so that Liverpool can get a deal done in the current financial climate.

Kabak, at just 20-years-old, would be a fine recruit for the future at Liverpool and a perfect option to support the current defensive options of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

If he goes on to fulfil his immense potential at Anfield, then Klopp will likely one day find himself thanking Wagner for the tip.
