Report: Liverpool fringe player Sheyi Ojo set to join Cardiff

Liverpool flyer Sheyi Ojo is set to join Championship outfit Cardiff City on a season-long loan,

Several second-tier clubs were thought to be keen, with the report also claiming Forest were interested.

It would seem as though Neil Harris has won the race to sign the 23-year-old, however, and a move could be finalised before the start of the season.

The Bluebirds lost in the Championship play-off semi-finals last season and Harris will hope to make the top-six again during 2020/21.

For Ojo, his days at Liverpool now look to be numbered. The flying winger has got 13 first-team outings to his name at Anfield but another loan spell will surely signal the beginning of the end.

Ojo didn’t light up the Scottish Premiership last season during a spell with Rangers, with Steven Gerrard failing to get him firing at Ibrox.

He netted five goals and registered seven assists from 36 appearances north of the border and might welcome the chance to return to English football.

Ojo has turned out for Fulham, Wigan and Wolves in the second tier and he will go for a tilt at promotion should he sign for Cardiff.

Liverpool will hope to offload a number of players this summer, with Ojo just one of many the club hopes to move on.

He does have a contract at Anfield until 2023 but his first-team chances do look slim right now.

TBR View – Cardiff move looks ideal for Ojo

Harris’ squad is certainly lacking when it comes to wingers and that should give Ojo something he needs more than anything – regular chances to play football.

The Liverpool winger is quick, direct and full of tricks, making him an ideal player at Championship level.

After a disappointing time at Rangers, Ojo simply needs a manager to have confidence in him and give him the platform to get 35+ games under his belt.

Cardiff and their boss Harris have a proud history with nurturing young talent and that could suit the winger nicely.
