Report: Liverpool expect to sell Xherdan Shaqiri this summer

Liverpool expect to sell Xherdan Shaqiri, as well as Divock Origi, when the summer transfer window opens, .

Shaqiri has remained on the periphery of Jurgen Klopp’s side this season. He has made just 13 appearances in the Premier League, starting just five times.

He enjoyed a decent run of games in the side from late January. However, he has proved to be an unused substitute in six of their last eight top flight fixtures.

And it now appears that the second-leg draw with Real Madrid in the Champions League earlier this month could prove to be one of his final appearances for the Reds.

that Shaqiri is one of the players Liverpool expect to sell this summer. Origi is the other name mentioned.

In truth, it will probably surprise few Reds fans to hear that the champions expect to sell the Swiss during the coming months.

Shaqiri – who earns £80,000-a-week, – has arguably been a very decent understudy for Klopp’s men. However, he has rarely come close to putting genuine pressure on the more established names within the side.

Admittedly, there is no shame in not being able to break into Liverpool’s strongest lineup. But it is an ominous sign that he has not featured more in a campaign when they have struggled so much.

Klopp will have his sights on the targets he hopes will take the Reds back into the title picture. And selling the likes of Shaqiri and Origi should only boast his hopes of bringing in the players he wants.
