Report: Liverpool enquired about Sokratis after Arsenal exit
Liverpool made contact with Sokratis Papastathopoulos last week and enquired about the defender following his departure from Arsenal, .
The Reds have had to deal with a number of defensive issues this season. Of course, the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have been out for some time due to injury.

that Jurgen Klopp is not expecting to add to his squad before the January window closes. However, it does appear that Liverpool were keeping their options open.
The report has suggested that an enquiry was made with Sokratis. The Greece international had become a free agent after his Gunners contract was terminated recently.

His exit came after months on the sidelines. The 32-year-old is yet to play this season having been left out of Mikel Arteta’s squads for the Premier League and in Europe.
In fairness, Arteta had a lot of praise for the defender following the news of his departure.
“I want to thank him because he’s such a professional and a great person to work with,” he said, . “It’s a shame because this season we have a lot of central defenders. We’re overloaded with foreign players and I have to make a decision. It was a tough one.
“To be fair he took it really well. He’s always been really supportive and helpful. So, from the bottom of my heart I wish him the best. It’s been a pleasure to work with him and I wish him the best for him and his family.”
Of course, many Liverpool fans may be relieved to hear that he will not be joining the club in this window. The Athletic has suggested that little came of the enquiry. And he has since completed a move to Olympiakos.
But he was a player who has worked under Klopp in the past. And their FA Cup defeat at the weekend arguably highlighted the need to get Fabinho back in midfield.
The Brazilian has been outstanding at the back. But Liverpool have suffered at times from not having him in his best position.
