Report: Liverpool decision hands Manchester United and Chelsea a Jadon Sancho boost

that Liverpool have pulled out of the race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, leaving just Manchester United and Chelsea in pursuit of the 11-time England international.

Sancho, 20, has been in stunning form for Dortmund this season – scoring a huge 17 goals from out wide and creating a whopping 19 assists. He has done all that in just 35 league and cup appearances, despite his tender age.

It comes as little surprise, then, that Dortmund want a nine-figure fee for his services – £100million. Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move to land Sancho this summer, and raid Klopp’s old side.

But the latest reports deem it unlikely that Liverpool will make a move for Sancho. The report even claims that Liverpool are not even monitoring talk over Sancho’s future, while Manchester United and Chelsea remain interested.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have opened talks with Sancho’s representatives, as have Chelsea. But neither side are willing to make an opening offer given the current state of football, and that they do not want to spend £100million.

TBR’s view – Are Liverpool making the right decision?

Sancho is England’s next best thing and is on a par with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Timo Werner and Europe’s best, young attackers given his stunning form. His stats are quite sensational.

However, Sancho needs to start and Liverpool will know that. At Anfield, would he? Sadio Mane and Mo Salah continue to take Liverpool to the top. Sancho may overtake the duo in a season or two, but right now he would be first reserve.

You simply do not spend £100million on a player to sit on the bench. So, Liverpool have seemingly made the right move – though such a move is likely to be reluctant. If Sancho stays at Dortmund this summer, Liverpool may be more keen in 2021.
