Report: Liverpool are now most likely team to sign ‘exceptional’ player, about to lay groundwork for the deal

Liverpool lead the race to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham amid a host of interested clubs.

The claim that interested parties, which include the Reds, are set to lay the groundwork over a potential deal.

It seems most likely that Bellingham will move during the summer and Dortmund tend to let one star leave every pre-season.

But the World Cup mid-season could boost his value and perhaps clubs will try and line up an earlier deal.

Liverpool lead Bellingham race

The good news for Liverpool is that they are apparently at the front of the pack and they are braced to make their move.

Liverpool’s midfield has been a topic of conversation all summer long but only Arthur Melo came in on transfer deadline day.

That was only a loan deal, and even if the Brazilian performed well, it would still pave the way for Bellingham to come in next summer and be the long-term solution.

Bellingham scored against Manchester City in the Champions League last night, shining back on English soil, but ultimately going down 2-1.

Pep Guardiola said, as quoted by : “I was impressed two seasons ago when he was 17. Now he’s 19… he was good at 17, imagine now at 19.

“He’s able to follow [Ilkay] Gundogan, Kevin [De Bruyne], win the duels, transitions are fast, to have the sense in the box for the goal he scored.

“So yes, an exceptional player. I think everybody knows it, not because the manager of Manchester City says it, everybody knows it.”
