Report links Leeds United with Nahitan Nandez again, agent previously made telling Bielsa comment

Leeds United’s season continues to be riddled with inconsistency, as they were comfortably swept aside by Chelsea at the weekend.

One area where the club is clearly keen to improve in the transfer market is in central midfield.

A summer deal for Michael Cuisance fell through and Leeds are therefore still in need of another central midfield operator.

Now, according to reports in Argentina, they could turn their attention to a former target.

that Leeds remain interested in Uruguayan midfielder Nahitan Nandez. The former Boca Juniors star is currently thriving at Cagliari in Italy and has a £32.5 million release clause in his current deal. However, the report claims that the Serie A side could in fact let Nandez go for a figure in the region of just €20 million (£18m).

He would certainly be the perfect option for Leeds, especially as a box-to-box alternative to Mateusz Klich or even as a holding midfield back-up for Kalvin Phillips.

Leeds have also been interested before and the player’s agent made it clear that Nandez would be open to working with head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

“I prefer to leave it [Cagliari] as an alternative option,” Nandez’s agent Pablo Bentancur in April 2019, as Leeds and Cagliari were being linked with the then Boca Juniors star. “I spoke with important clubs in Europe and he [Nandez] told me that he would like to play with Bielsa.”

If Leeds have to pay his release clause, then this might be a little rich for a January arrival.

But at £18 million? That might be a deal that Leeds need to get done in the winter to help them secure their place in the Premier League.
